VR Gunstock Origins
I’m Falan (Simon) — inventor of the first VR gunstock and co-founder of KobraVR. That’s me on the home page banner.
Back in 2013, I tried the Oculus Rift DK1, and it was amazing. Even with only tech demos and early alphas, it was clear to me that virtual reality gaming was about to change everything.
As consumer headsets started getting closer to release, I realised I wanted VR shooting to feel realistic — something that connected you to the game. So, as an avid gamer, a real-world shooter, trained product designer and mechanical engineer, I mixed all of that together and built the very first VR gunstock.
We called it the noobtube and shared it on Reddit in 2016 as a DIY project (yep, that was me). I even strapped on a bass shaker for haptics, making it the first haptic VR gunstock. It was ugly, heavy, and unwieldy… but it worked — and it kicked off what would later become KobraVR.
